The project focused on analyzing and proposing measures to reduce the generation of plastic waste and improve its treatment.
The project duration was from August 2021 to May 2022.
It involved conducting an in-depth analysis of plastic waste management conditions in 22 municipalities across two regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia. Following a detailed analysis and the development of a multi-criteria evaluation, two municipalities from each region were selected for further detailed investigation and data collection on factors related to waste generation, collection, and management. The analysis included the creation of comprehensive questionnaires for stakeholders, particularly the local population, to gather detailed information on habits and attitudes regarding waste management, especially plastic and plastic waste.
Using tools such as the GIZ Waste Flow Diagram (WFD), the project assessed the technical and social factors affecting waste management in the observed municipalities. Based on the results, tailored improvement projects were proposed to establish greater efficiency and sustainability in plastic waste management, ensuring alignment with local needs and international standards.
