Investigation of the largest PCB hotspot in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina

This project preceded the Remediation Plan Project and was conducted from May to September 2020.

Following an oil spill during the reconstruction and cleaning of part of the Incel industrial zone in Banja Luka, an analysis and mapping of microhotspots within the industrial zone were carried out. The primary objectives of this detailed site assessment were to determine the degree of PCB contamination in the identified “hotspots” and to assess the severity of its impact on the environment and human health.

Based on the research results and previous studies, risks to human health and the environment were assessed using the US EPA methodology. Short-term preventive measures and long-term corrective actions were proposed and presented to the relevant project stakeholders and government authorities.
